Rolex still remains the most affected brand by the problem of counterfeiting. Then Cartier, and recently Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Breitling, Tag Heuer, and IWC.
Five years ago, it was quite easy for a sharp eye, to make the difference between a fake and a real watch. Today, you have to open it to see an ETA or a Valjoux movement taking place of the original movement to identify a fake. This market generates so many benefits, especially in the United States, that the manufacturers of counterfeit invest increasingly in order to achieve more than satisfactory results. More than 90% of Rolex models is counterfeiting by now to the Bubbleback! Models exceeding 40,000 euros like the Daytona Paul Newman Daytona 6265 or 6263 (20,000 euros) are now available at first glance, glaring truth.
However, a closer look reveals that, with training and acquiring an eye expert, faults occur. Wrong diameter, incorrect gradations, bad typography. For that, one must know the real as well as the counterfeit. The most wanted models for the Rolex mark are the GMT 1675 Master I, II GMT Master 16710, 14270 and 6350 Explorer, Explorer II 1655 and 16570, Daytona Cosmograph 116528, 116518 or the old models like the 6263, 6264, Paul Newman models 6239, 6262, 6241, Milgauss 6541, 1019, the Day-date, the Datejust. The models at the Panerai WFP 00001 to 00199, Cartier Tank French, American Tank, Turtle, Roadster ...
All the models are offered by manufacturers of counterfeit and can be identified. The counterfeit business affects virtually all brands: Audemars Piguet, Tag Heuer, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, Chopard, Breitling, Omega, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Zenith, Chanel, Baume and Mercier, Patek Philippe, Breguet, even A. Lange & Söhne despite complications proposed by the latter. But when it comes to big complication watches, it is possible that the appearance of counterfeiting is sometimes misleading, but regarding the quality of the movements, we are far from the final results...
